Le «patrimoine» comme économie des «restes»

Le cas des savoirs et savoir-faire autour des plantes sauvages en Suisse

This analysis of the heritagization of practices of gathering wild herbs in the Swiss context argues that the notion of «heritage» maintains a double relation to the «remains of history»: on the one hand, it grants them the status of «heritage» through a process of recycling; on the other hand, this status has the effect of producing new «remains» by a process of arbitration and selection. Based on an ethnographic investigation in Valais, this study shows that heritagization not only results from, but also causes dynamic reconfigurations in the field of knowledge and know- how related to wild herbs.
