Seite 28
Jean-François Mayer

This article examines the role of nonconventional religious beliefs in the development of what are considered to be unusual marriage arrangements. It emphasizes the strong interac tion between doctrines and practices. The description primarily focuses on three groups: Swedenborgians, Mormons, and Moonies. What makes some behaviours distinctive in the eyes of outsiders is an emphasis upon the community and its interests, over and above those of individuals and the nuclear family.
