Lorsque le provisoire se prolonge
Les paradoxes du permis F
This article addresses the paradoxical situation of migrants living in Switzerland who hold a temporary «F» residency permit. On the one hand, individuals under «F» residency are subjected to a series of limitations regarding their rights (restricted access to education and the labor market, restricted mobility, etc.) that render their social integration more difficult. On the other hand, integration is a key condition to the successful obtention of a more stable status (the «B» residency permit). Because of this catch-22, many of those admitted only temporarily have little chance of being able to settle down in Switzerland. They find themselves trapped in a gray zone between the hope of integration and the looming danger of deportation.
